Jimmy always wanted to play basketball in the local recreation league, but his parents couldn’t afford the registration fee. He always felt bad when he’d hear his friends talk about playing in the rec league and he couldn’t join in. UWWC helps children like Jimmy to be involved. Eleven towns, parks and recreation districts or departments in Weld County received $25,940 worth of recreation scholarships from UWWC for 2021. In 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, 548 youth were able to utilize the scholarships to participate in programs that promote a healthy lifestyle and teach life skills through recreational activities.
