For the safety of Weld County homeless UWWC cold weather shelter guests by limiting the possibility of contracting COVID-19, United Way of Weld County and Catholic Charities needed to find a new, larger location so as to practice social distancing. Community leaders worked to find and solution and decided that Island Grove Regional Park exhibition building, 501 N. 14th Ave., Greeley, would be used for homeless shelter space for the remainder of the cold weather shelter season (April 15).
This could not have been made possible without the work of so many key people’s leadership to step up and help out. United Way of Weld County and Catholic Charities worked tirelessly with officials at the City of Evans, City of Greeley mayor, city managers, emergency operations managers, University of Northern Colorado, Greeley-Evans District 6, Weld County Government officials, as well as other community leaders to find a location for the UWWC Housing Navigation Center/cold weather shelter so that we can comply with other health guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis.
