United Way of Weld County is proud to announce that the Housing Navigation Center’s overnight shelter will now remain open 365 days a year, thanks to continued and expanded funding from the City of Greeley. This extension ensures that the shelter, originally set to operate seasonally, will provide nightly refuge to individuals experiencing homelessness throughout the entirety of 2026.
The overnight shelter, located at the Housing Navigation Center at 870 28th Street in Greeley, officially opened for the 2025–26 winter season on October 30. With the City’s support, the shelter will no longer close when warmer weather returns, providing consistent, safe, and stable overnight accommodations for Weld County’s most vulnerable residents.
“This funding from the City of Greeley makes a tremendous difference for our community,” said Melanie Woolman, chief executive officer of United Way of Weld County. “Year-round, overnight shelter means that individuals will have access to safety, and stability, which is crucial for their transition out of homelessness. We know that it’s much easier to meet with case managers, search for housing, work on your resume, etc. when you don’t have to worry about where you’re going to sleep that night. It’s a significant step forward in our shared goal of ensuring that everyone in Weld County has a place to call home.”
The Housing Navigation Center (HNC) is a key part of Weld’s system to prevent and end homelessness, offering more than just a place to sleep. Guests have access to case management, employment resources, and connections to permanent housing options through a network of local partners.
“The City of Greeley is proud to continue this collaboration with United Way,” said Mayor John Gates. “By maintaining year-round shelter services, we’re addressing the realities of homelessness with compassion and practical solutions.”
United Way of Weld County extends appreciation to the City of Greeley and its residents for recognizing the importance of stable, year-round support for individuals experiencing homelessness. Together, through partnership and community commitment, United Way continues its mission of building powerful partnerships to create lasting change across Weld County.
