AmeriCorps VISTA Project
Does Your Nonprofit Have Big Dreams?
Approximately 46 million Americans live in poverty. In Weld County alone, 13.8%, or 36,000+ people, are considered below the Federal Poverty Level. While local nonprofits do much to help folks in need, many organizations themselves are under-resourced or do not have the capacity to accomplish the work they have at hand. With more resources and added capacity agencies can do even more to address persistent poverty in Weld County.
VISTAs help their agencies implement new programs, raise funds, recruit volunteers, and much more. In 2019 100% VISTA host agencies reported that hosting a VISTA made their work more efficient and effective.
Who are the VISTAs?
AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate individuals dedicated to making a difference. VISTAs make a year-long full-time commitment to serve at agencies who fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and assist low-income communities.
From July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019 United Way of Weld County managed the AmeriCorps VISTA Project for Weld County and Northeast Colorado placing 24 AmeriCorps VISTA Members at 15 nonprofits and local government agencies.
During the summer, United Way supported 12 direct service Summer Associates at 8 hosting agencies.
In 2019 United Way of Weld County VISTA members recruited 5,230 volunteers who served 17,953 hours and raised $822,489 (cash and in-kind).
