Americorps VISTA Project

Does your nonprofit have big dreams? Approximately 46 million Americans live in poverty. In Weld County alone, 13.8%, or 36,000+ people, are considered under the Federal poverty line. While local nonprofits do much to help the community, many are under-resourced or do not have the capacity to accomplish the work they have at hand. With more resources and additional ability agencies can do even more to address persistent poverty in Weld County. VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long full-time commitment to focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and assist low-income communities. From 2017-2018 United Way of Weld County directly managed the AmeriCorps VISTA Project for Weld County and Northeast Colorado placing 22 AmeriCorps VISTA Members in 15 nonprofit agencies and public schools.

The total impact for the 2018-2019 fiscal year includes volunteers recruited – 6,845; number of volunteer hours – 22,621; total fundraising (cash and in-kind) dollars – $906,777. United Way of Weld County AmeriCorps VISTAs are assigned for one year serving  40 hours per week to build nonprofit capacity at organizations that work to address and eliminate poverty. In addition, from June-August 2017 United Way of Weld County managed 24 Summer Associate VISTAs at 15 nonprofit agencies.
