Girls Scouts is the largest leadership development organization devoted solely to girls in the world. Girl Scouts Mountain Prairie Council serves girls and adults in the Northeastern counties of Colorado. In Girl Scouts, girls develop character, courage and confidence, as well as, values, skills and friendships that last a lifetime. Girls are challenged to be the best they can be and then to give their best to make the world a better place. We do all of this in partnership with families, schools and religious institutions. Girl Scouting is an informal educational program that helps girls put into practice the fundamental principles found in the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Learning opportunities for girls range from aerospace and architecture to zebras and zinc. Age specific activities encourage them to discover, lead and take action. They might play games or play soccer, explore careers or other cultures, learn to manage money or manage their health, go under water or under a sink. In Girl Scouts they have experiences they might not have otherwise. As a girl progresses from one level to another, they take more responsibility for planning and leadership within their groups. By their teen years they will be able to plan and execute a project on their own, with adult guidance. Community service is an integral part of Girl Scouts. Girls learn to give back to their communities with expectation of reward. By helping others at a young age they develop a spirit of giving.
