Do a favor for your community
Many of my friends and colleagues have asked me in the last several weeks “with as busy as you are, why are you volunteering to be Chairman of the Board of Directors of United Way of Weld County, don’t you have enough to do?”  It is with a great deal of thought about the commitment required that I accepted the nomination to this role.  It is a humbling honor and a very important job.  As a Board member for United Way of Weld County and as a member of the Executive Committee for the past six years, I have had the privilege to work alongside an amazing and dedicated group of volunteers and professional staff.  Their dedication and passion for the United Way mission to improve the lives of people by mobilizing the caring power of our community is energizing and fulfilling.  Serving others blesses me, and hopefully others as well!

My family and I have been blessed to work and live in Weld County for the past thirty-four years.  I grew up believing that a person needs to give back to their community to help insure that our community is healthy.  That includes such things as voting, supporting our schools, volunteering and taking time to honor God’s blessings.  I also believe in supporting United Way because they provide funds and partner with a broad team of health and human services that help children, youth and families in an accountable and caring manner.

United Way of Weld County works diligently to not only solve problems in the community, but also to prevent some of these problems from happening in the first place. They maximize contributions and assure donations are spent wisely. Simply said, United Way helps people right here, in Weld County.

At our United Way, every contribution is valued and makes a direct difference in the lives of people as overhead costs are covered by our Cornerstone Partner businesses and foundations.  These partners cover our fundraising and general administrative costs.

Families are facing difficult economic times but even during these times each of us can do something to help make our community a better place.  Whether it is volunteering or making a contribution, if we each do something or do a little something more than we did last year, it will serve to help build our community.

So, please do yourself and your community a favor, get involved in United Way of Weld County.  For a county our size and the needs we have, we have too few committed to giving and being involved.  Please call the United Way office; there are numerous opportunities to serve.  I also encourage you to contribute to our United Way; whether it is $1.00 a month, $1.00 a week, $100 or $1,000, your contribution combined with the generosity of others will have a huge impact on the lives of Weld County residents.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve all of you!
