Partnerships - Promises for Children - Crisis Facing Our Children

Promises for Children | Weld County Child Abuse Coalition | Housing and Emergency Services Network

Since 1990, the Colorado Children's campaign has published statistical data that tracks Colorado Counties' progress on critical indicators of child health education and safety. Weld County children have not fared as well as children from adjacent counties or in comparison to children in Colorado as a whole.

Weld County over the last decade has had one of the worst KidsCount records of child well being in the state and Greeley in 2002 was targeted as one of four cities deemed in crises. Among the 15 cities cited, Greeley's most startling statistic was prenatal care, having the highest percentage of mothers receiving late or no prenatal care. In 2002, there were 3,531 births in Weld County, 949 were to women who did not receive care during their first trimester of pregnancy. 211 women received late or no prenatal care.
