Juvenile Assessment Center
As the fastest growing county in the country, one challenge facing Weld County is the ability to provide adequate services to youth and families in crisis. Last year, Weld County had high drop-out, suspension, and expulsion rates, and an increase in juvenile court filings. With these things in mind, the Juvenile Assessment Center is a non-profit organization designed to improve the lives of Weld County youth. The main goals of the JAC are:
- Create a single point of entry for youth
- Provide Assessment Specialists to work with up to 3,000 juveniles (ages 10-17) per year.
- Provide Juvenile Detention screening and comprehensive assessment for youth and their families.
- Provide early intervention services through community collaboration, especially in the areas of early intervention, family mediation, and parenting education.
The benefits of the JAC in Weld County will include:
- An increase in school attendance.
- A decrease in the number of school suspensions and expulsions.
- A reduction in recidivism (second offense).
- Fewer juvenile court filings.
At the moment there are no volunteer opportunities with the JAC, but you can volunteer your time with some of JAC’s partnering agencies:
- Weld County Partners – (970) 351-0700
- Boys & Girls Club – (970) 353-0079
